HEAPS OF LEMONS

A BALLOON CALLED MOANING

Keith Canisius

Keith Canisius is incredible. He's up there on my favorites list with the like of Tame Impala, White Denim, Crystals Stilts (to name a few). Dripping in lysergia (one song of his is even called "LSD"), he makes electronic dream pop music that is just so unique. I haven't heard anything else like him. Its so damn good. For me this is excellent sounds before a surf session, especially the unexpected 3-4 foot ultra clean easy waves I scored Friday morning (while at work hehehe). He has a bandcamp page here. Oh and the best part, his music is free! What a great dude. I have yet to check out his band The Holy Dreamers, but I can imagine that they're great too. Here a fav from each album above.

crystal stilts - radiant door

Crystal Stilts - Radiant Door Ep

These fucking guys man...these fucking guys. Between the echo, reverb, spookyish synths, and vocals that sound like they were recorded in an old cavern, surfy guitars, psychedelicness, man oh man, these fucking guys. Listen and dig. Oh and if you've got the loot to spare, buy the record. -m

A few surf pics from my collection

I'm a little pissed that I the winds were in my favour this morning and I woke up late, thinking that last night it was going to be onshore at about 10-15knots today. Dammit. So here's some pics I found on the interwebs. -m
this looks like the most fun, easy wave I've ever seen

White Denim - Last Day of Summer

When a band like white denim decides to experiment with their sound, you know good things are in store. They are definitely one of my favorite bands. I don't understand the punk back round some people say they have, maybe its because their music isn't aggressive, it weaves and glides with some energy and speed, but always optimistic. Its an alternative rock ( a very vague and open category) base, with psych, folk, jazz and experimental all mixed into one fantastic record. Listen and dig. -M

Magic Wands - Aloha Mooooooooon

I listened to this song about 20 times today (going on 21). I just love it. It may be one of my favorite songs ever. It brings images of a bright moonlit beach, and tumbling in the surf with a lover as well as sliding in glassy afternoon waves. Its just so mellow and light. The vocals just float and drift past vibrating synths and tropic guitar melodies, all the while the sounds of crashing surf and seagulls line the backround. A mediafire search should do the trick.

Life on Earth!

The Life on Earth! - The Perfect Spot

A side project for the members of Dungen (sans the singer), the Life on Earth! make peaceful, happy hippie music that sounds straight out of 1970, but without all the doom and gloom that the post 60's era brought. It makes you feel happy with life and is a great accompaniment to the summer season. Oh, and the vocals are in English! I actually don't really dig the vocals in Dungen which is a shame because the music is outstanding. I wish I had a download link for you, but you'll have to purchase this one. I stumbled across this one for free at some blog that I cannot recall. All I remember is that it went with an interview that blog did with Mattias Gustavsson and he himself wanted to give it away. What a nice dude.
