Devendra Banhart - Mala

I must say, I really enjoyed Devendra Banhart's first 3 proper albums. Cripple Crow and Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon were okay, they had some good songs on each. Overall though, the albums were just okay. What Will Be is a favorite of mine, with the exception of a couple songs on the album. Mala however is quite exceptional. He's scaled back his sound a bit and mellowed. His lyrics are still wonderfully strange. It sounds like he stepped back to Rejoicing in the Hands and Nino Rojo but with the talent and skill he's acquired over a longer musical career. Not something an artist does too often. I love this record!

Kurt Vile - Wakin on a Pretty Daze/Goldtone

Ice Dragon - Dreamliner

Youth Lagoon - Pelican Man/Mute

Vintage Joint: Pink Floyd - Zabriskie Point

Vintage Joint

Another installment of vintage joint. I've been on a Pink Floyd kick lately. Specifically pre-Dark Side of the Moon. Pretty sure Meddle is my favorite official album. This is really awesome too though. It was a collection of songs for a soundtrack to some wonky hippie film that I have been meaning to see. For some dumbass reason the filmmaker scrapped the idea. I think it is Pink Floyd's mellowest cosmic compositions ever penned. Jerry Garcia also recorded some songs for the movie as well, which are also fantastic. Apparently, he sat in a room alone and played the guitar to while watching  the 11 minute sex scene that takes place in the desert over and over again (presumably after smoking some fantastic grass).

Gerry Lopez 1972 Island Magic

God he is one smooth sliding son of a bitch.

Vintage Joint: Gabor Szabo - Witchcraft

Vintage Joint

I have never been a big fan of traditional Jazz such as hard bop and the like. I like more experimental Miles Davis-esque jazz. Or Jazz such as this. Mellow jazz with a groove. Good jazz guitar by Gabor Szabo. A legend. Dig it.

Boogarins

This band is fucking great. They're from Brazil and they bring their own unique cultural flavor to psychedelic pop music. It's a similar concept that other bands have success with (Dungen). I cannot wait for a full LP! Free download too by the way. Thank you to the musicians for making such amazing music.
